Il faut + infinitive
The fastest way to express obligation without choosing a subject. Very frequent in exam instructions.
- Il faut remplir ce formulaire. — You have to fill in this form.
- Il ne faut pas oublier la carte. — You must not forget the card.
The 24-hour clock
Official French, and Canadian exams, use the 24-hour clock: quatorze heures trente = 2:30 p.m.
- Le magasin ferme à vingt et une heures. — The store closes at 9 p.m.
- Le rendez-vous est à quatorze heures trente. — The appointment is at 2:30 p.m.
